OSHP seizes suspected cocaine, heroin after traffic stop near Toledo

TOLDEO — An Ohio man and woman and Michigan man face felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 83 grams of heroin and 71 grams of cocaine, valued at $40,300 during a traffic stop last week in Lucas County.

Troopers stopped a 2010 Chevrolet rental car for a following too close violation on Interstate 75 southbound near 3:26 p.m. on April 14. Troopers observed a strong odor of burnt marijuana. A probable-cause search revealed 83 grams of heroin and 71 grams of cocaine hidden on the driver’s person.

The driver, Desiree L. Heablin, 26, of Marion, Ohio, admitted that the drugs were supplied to her by the two passengers who paid her $300. Heablin and her two passengers, Antoine L. Wade, 32, of Mansfield, and Alvin E. Smith Jr., 39, of Detroit, were all charged with possession of heroin, a first-degree felony and posession of cocaine, a third-degree felony.

If convicted, all three could face up to 15 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
