“GAME OF THRONES” (9 p.m., HBO): Suspense, swordplay and sex are just some of the main ingredients of this epic drama series based on the medieval fantasies of George R.R. Martin. In the riveting opener, embattled King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) journeys north to offer Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean) an important position in his court. But the job carries with it a large dose of heartache and danger.

“The Celebrity Apprentice” (9 p.m., NBC): “The Celebrity Apprentice” has raised the bar when it comes to fiery meltdowns (See: Meat Loaf vs. Gary Busey). Must the dissension continue? We can only hope.

“TV Land Awards” (9 p.m., TV Land): Old shows don’t die; they just go to get feted on the “TV Land Awards.” Tonight’s celebrants include, among others. “The Cosby Show” and “Welcome Back, Kotter.”
