The Boardman marching band will host bands from Springfield, Lowellville, West Branch, Austintown and Canfield at its annual band night.

Band Night plans to live up to the tradition of exciting, high quality entertainment and will continue its traditional “Run On” and “Fanfare for the Common Man.”

The Boardman Spartan Marching Band and the Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents, Inc. will host Boardman Band Night Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in Boardman Spartan Stadium. Participating high school bands include Springfield, Lowellville, West Branch, Austintown, Canfield and Boardman

Admission at the gates is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior citizens are admitted free to all Boardman Band events. Gates open at 6 p.m.

The opening marching drill will be to the 1980s hit “She Blinded Me With Science.” The Spartan Silks are the first featured group. They perform to “Any Way You Want It” by Journey.

The Spartan Twirlers will light up the night with a fire-twirling routine to “Let’s Groove “ by Earth, Wind and Fire. The Spartan Sweethearts will perform Peggy Lee’s “Hey Big Spender” with vocals by Katelyn DeLadurantey.

The closer promises to top last year’s space theme as the band takes its audience “Into, Under, and Across the Sea.” At 265 members, this year’s Spartan Marching Band is the largest high school band in the area.

The band is under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri, Timothy P. Tuite, Steven Chambers, Michael Shevock and Frank Dispenza.

Also on staff are Jamie Cordon, Niki Dispenza and Janet Gbur, who instruct the Sweethearts, Silks and Twirlers.
