CANFIELD

The Federal Trade Commission has donated about 3,200 booklets on Internet safety to families through the Canfield School District.

The booklet, “Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online,” educates parents and teachers on how to have a dialogue with children about issues such as texting, cyber bullying, sexting, mobile-phone safety and protecting the family computer.

“It is extremely important that we, the educators and parents of Canfield students, teach our children about using the Internet in an appropriate and safe manner,” said Canfield Superintendent Dante J. Zambrini. “We are proud to partner with the FTC to provide this guide with practical tips to help parents help their children navigate the online world.”

Jon Miller Steiger, director of the FTC’s East Central Regional Office, said “Net Cetera” teaches parents how to start conversations with their children about online safety.

“Net Cetera” will go home with students. This guide also will be available at fall parent conferences. School officials are encouraging parents to be on the lookout for this valuable resource and use it as an opportunity to start a conversation with their student.
