AMS wins and loses

AMS volleyball teams faced off against Warren White and Gold Oct. 16.

The eighth-grade team lost to White in three games and the seventh-grade team lost in two.

The seventh and eighth-grade teams bounced back against the gold team, each winning the match in two games.

Two days later, Oct. 18, AMS took on Canfield.

The eighth-grade team lost in two games and the seventh-grade team won in three.

Fitch takes semifinal

Fitch won the sectional semi-final 1-0 over Warren Harding Oct. 18.

At halftime the score was 0-0, but 30 seconds into the second half, Fitch senior Adam Justice slid a shot past Harding keeper Charles Wargo to net the win.

Mike Shaffer had the assist for Justice and goalie Chris Platton had three saves.

Falcon girls get win over Boardman

The Austintown Fitch girls varsity soccer team defeated Boardman 2-1 Oct. 16.

Emily Durina and Kristen Schmidt scored for the Falcons. Sara Ford offered an assist. The Falcons had nine shots on goal to Boardman’s eight. Goalie Jessica Scott had seven saves.

Hoover hands Fitch a loss

The Austintown Fitch volleyball team was defeated by Hoover 25-14, 25-10 and 25-12 Oct. 14.

Fitch leaders included Kacie Roche with four kills, Julie Martinelli with two aces, Britney Weidenthal with 14 assists, Amanda Callahan with seven digs and Colleen Hurdley with two blocks.

Fitch overpowers Perry

The Austintown Fitch girls soccer team defeated visiting Massillon Perry 10-0 Oct. 13.

Fitch had 13 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.

Jessica Scott had four saves. Tori Koch scored three goals, Kristen Schmidt scored two. Lauren Bower, Emily Durina, Kelsey Martin, Mikah Vaughn and Brook Neal each scored one goal.

Kristen Schmidt, Kaity Shiley, Jen Shiley, Lexi McWreath, Lauren Paolucci, Adrianna Caruso, Meghan Shonce, Emily Durina and Mandi Koch each had an assist.

The junior varsity squad also defeated Massillon Perry 9-1.

Fitch had 18 shots on goal and five corner kicks.

Cassie Custer had four saves. Ashley Meade scored two goals with Megan Miller, Sammi Devenport, Andrea Precurato, Cassie Custer, Krista Martin, Hanna Steinker and Casey Roberts scoring one each.

Sammi Devenport had two assists, Sara Greathouse and Bree Helminiak had one.

Fitch prevails over Perry

The Austintown Fitch boys soccer team beat Massillon Perry 6-0 Oct. 12 after being up 3-0 at halftime.

Sophomore Keanu Shelton had a great game with three assists and one goal. Trevor Yacovone scored two and Nate Bowlen, Joe Soriano and Mike Schaffer each scored one.

Soriano and Bowlen each offered an assist. Nick Sheeley had 13 saves and Chris Platton had three.

The JV team beat Perry 4-2.
