MEN

Piedmont 78, Mount Union 77

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

Piedmont got a 30-foot buzzer beater from Jim Skaggs to beat Mount Union at the Rhodes College Men’s Basketball Thanksgiving Classic. Skaggs finished with a game-high 21 points for the Lions (3-1). All five Mount Union (1-4) starters scored in double figures led by junior forward Jimmy Wood who had 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Dave Pellerite also had eight rebounds and 13 points while fellow senior guard Ben Hodkinson scored 12 points. The last two double figure scorers for the Purple Raiders were junior forward Matt Wier and freshman guard T.J. Gillespie each with 11 points.

Bethany 81, Case Western Reserve 55

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS

Behind five scorers in double digits and a defense that held Case Western Reserve scoreless over the final 8:38, the Bison (3-3) took third place in John Carroll’s John Steadman Classic. The balanced Bison attack was led by junior British Alexander with 16 points. James Barton, Brady Pacific, Nick Wilcox and Reece Mabery tossed in 10 apiece. Pacing the Spartans (1-5) was Austin Fowler with 20 points.

Hiram 74, Baldwin-Wallace 72

BEREA

The Terriers (3-2) won on a basket by junior forward Chris Meyer off a missed shot with less than a second remaining. Hassan Muhammad led Hiram with a career-high 22 points. The Yellow Jackets (1-3) were led by Kyle Payne with a game-high 25 points.

WOMEN

Mount Union 68, St. John Fisher 56

PITTSFORD, N.Y.

Tournament MVP Rosa LaMattina had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Purple Raiders in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational championship game. Kori Wiedt and Megan Saunders added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Amanda Rose grabbed seven rebounds.

Hiram 72, Penn State-Behrend 66

HIRAM

The Terriers (2-0) outscored the Lions (1-2), 41-32, in their come-from-behind victory. Hiram was led by Jess Cowan who scored a game-high 21 points and made a team-best nine boards. Junior guard Kelsey Durichko scored 12 points and Emily Smerchansky (Girard) added 10 points. Durichko also tallied a game-high six assists. Behrend was led by the duo of Aly Eagle and Holly Bourquin who both scored 16.

Findlay 83, Slippery Rock 56

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.

Danielle Smith finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Slippery Rock. Alex Beatty finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, while Shannon Lee added 10 points.
