MEN

Penn State Behrend 75, Westminster 68

ERIE, PA.

Freshman guard Christian Shea sank a career-high 19 points for the Titans (1-3). Shea caught fire from 3-point range as he bucketed 5 of 7 from behind the arc while shooting 7-9 overall from the floor. Freshman guard Anthony Thomas and sophomore guard Doug Smith also scored in double figures for the Titans with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Junior forward Rob Briggs pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points for the Titans. Russ Conley (4-0) led the Lions with 24 points on an efficient 9-11 shooting from the floor.

Mercyhurst 92, Lake Erie College 66

PAINESVILLE

Guard Heiden Ratner led the Lakers (3-0) with 24 points, including four three-pointers. The Storm was led by senior guard Ethan Bradshaw with 20 points. Sophomore center Garrick Sims added 10 points and five rebounds for Lake Erie.

John Carroll 90, Bethany 85

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS

Sophomore James Barton scored a career-high 27 points in Bethany’s upset bid in the first round of JCU’s John Steadman Classic. The defeat drops BC (2-3) into today’s consolation game against Case Western Reserve, which suffered an 86-69 loss to Olivet (Mich.) College. All five of John Carroll’s starters scored in double digits, led by Joey Meyer with 23 and Michael Hartnett with 17. For Bethany, Brady Pacific tossed in a career-best 15 points, Nick Wilcox posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, and McFadden scored 10 points.

Mount Union 93, Rust 86

MEMPHIS

Four players scored in the double figures to give Mount Union its first win of the season. The Purple Raiders (1-3) got a career-high 19 points from senior guard Ben Hodkinson.

WOMEN

Hiram 67, Westminster 64 (OT)

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

Hiram’s Jessica Cowan scored the game-winning field goal with 38 seconds remaining before sinking a pair of free throws to put the Terriers (1-0) up by three. Cowan led all scorers with 25 points, while her teammate Tiffany Shields bucketed 15. Hannah Shaffer led the Titans (2-3) with a career-high 15 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Westminster set a team record for rebounds as the Titans outrebounded the Terriers, 77-47. The previous Westminster record for rebounds in a game were 60 vs. Ursuline on Dec. 9, 2000.

Owens CC 89, Kalamazoo Valley CC 81

TOLEDO

Dana Mathews of Struthers led Owens with 22 points.
