Beaver Twp. will mark bicentennial

NORTH LIMA

Officials have organized volunteer meetings to plan events and activities to commemorate the 200th anniversary of establishing Beaver Township.

Volunteers will meet on the third Wednesday of every month at the township administration office, 11999 South Ave., to gather ideas, collect photographs and organize memorabilia.

Scott Conway, Beaver Township park administrator, said the township is looking to launch the celebration in January, with events continuing throughout the year.

Mercer Co. budget

MERCER, Pa.

Mercer County’s 2011 proposed budget can be viewed at www.mcc.co.mercer.pa.us.

Final adoption of the spending plan, which calls for 0.25-mill tax cut to county taxpayers, is scheduled for the commissioners’ regular meeting at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 in the assembly room of the Mercer County Courthouse.

Christmas auction at Springfield High

NEW SPRINGFIELD

VFW Triangle Post 2799 invites the public to its Christmas Auction from 4 to 9 p.m. next Sunday at Springfield High School, 11333 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. Toys, electronics and miscellaneous items will be featured. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Proceeds will be used for the post’s scholarship program.

Free computer class on Microsoft Word

YOUNGSTOWN

A free class on the Basics of Microsoft Word will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Cornersburg Baptist Church, 3898 Tippecanoe Road, Youngstown. Other word processors will work for the class, however the focus will be MS Word. Participants need to bring their own computers. To register, call 330-702-8959.

Fundraiser helps vision-impaired

CANFIELD

Canfield Lions, with the help of Canfield High School LEO’s Club, collected more than $2,700 during the clubs’ annual Candy Day on Wednesday. The Lions and LEO’s passed out mints and accepted donations to help the blind and vision-impaired in the area. Three grocery stores, IGA in Canfield, Sparkle Market in Cornersburg and Giant Eagle in Canfield, hosted the clubs.
