Garden Forum installs officers at holiday luncheon, flower show

YOUNGSTOWN

Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area celebrated its 80th anniversary Nov. 10 during a holiday flower show and luncheon in the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek Park.

During the business session, officers for 2011-2012 were installed by Rose Marie Roth, outgoing president.

Inducted were Mary Schall, president; Kay Zimmerman, first vice president; Charlene Flesch, second vice president; JoAnn Vlacancich, third vice president; Lee Meadows, publicity; Patricia Feindt, recording and corresponding secretary; and Irene John, treasurer.

Guest speakers were Carole DeChicco, staff educational and activity coordinator for RayArc Industries, and David Krout, who attends one of the day programs with an education theme.

A demonstration on creating holiday wreaths and floral arrangements was presented by Deanna Hosey, floral designer with Something Unique 4 U.

After judging at the flower show, the Best of Show award in artistic arrangements went to Pearl Marlos of Gleaners. Receiving blue ribbons in that category were Marlos and Joyce Dunbar of Gleaners; Beverly Italiano and Tony Spencer of Public; and Esther Bertch of Nature Lovers.

In the horticulture division the Best of Show awards went to Anne Ellis of Nature Lovers and Mary Lou Flere of Gleaners. Blue ribbon winners were: Flere, Marlos and Dunbar of Gleaners; Mary Schall of Austintown; Bertch and Martha Murphy of Nature Lovers; Hugh Earnhart of Mens Garden Club; and Beverly Patrick of Ikebana.
