Garden club marks 80th year with flower show

The Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area celebrated its 80th year at its Holiday Flower Show Luncheon and general meeting Nov. 10 at the Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

New officers for 2011-2012 were installed by Rose Marie Roth, outgoing president. New leaders included Mary Schall, president; Kay Zimmerman, first vice president; Charlene Flesch, second vice president; JoAnn Vlacancich, third vice president; Lee Meadows, publicity; Patricia Feindt, recording and corresponding secretary; and Irene John, treasurer. Guest speakers were Carole DeChicco, Staff Educational and Activity Coordinator from RayArc Industries with David Krout, who attends one of the day programs with an education theme.

Ribbon winners for the Holiday Flower Show were:

Artistic Arrangements - Best of Show – Pearl Marlos-Gleaners

Blue Ribbon Winners: Marlos - Gleaners, Beverly Italiano – Public, Joyce Dunbar – Gleaners, Esther Bertch - Nature Lovers and Tony Spencer – Public.

Horticulture: Best of Show – Anne Ellis – Nature Lovers; Mary Lou Flere – Gleaners.

Blue Ribbon Winners: Flere – Gleaners, Schall – Austintown, Bertch – Nature Lovers, Marlos – Gleaners, Martha Murphy – Nature Lovers, Hugh Earnhart – Mens Garden Club, Joyce Dunbar – Gleaners and Beverly Patrick – Ikebana.
