Police: Vandalism possibly connected to G-20

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say vandals who smashed windows at Pittsburgh businesses, causing thousands of dollars in damage, may have been upset over the sentencing of a G-20 protester.

Pittsburgh police say 10 to 15 people took part in the vandalism Tuesday night in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.

The window-breaking happened several hours after a man was sentenced to at least six months in jail for similar acts during the Group of 20 economic summit last year. Twenty-one-year-old David Japenga apologized for causing more than $10,000 in damages during the September 2009 protests.

During Tuesday’s vandalism, floor-to-ceiling windows were broken at one bank branch and more broken across the street at a vacant space next to another bank.
