One lane of I-76 westbound open following accident

Interstate 76 just West of the Ohio Turnpike entrance/exit ramps is now open to one lane after clean-up crews spent hours Wednesday morning picking up debris from a fatal accident.

The accident happened at about 5 a.m. on Interstate 76 West just east of Bailey Road, backing up traffic for about five hours on Interstate 680 northbound and state Route 11 southbound to the Mahoning Avenue exit in Austintown.

Two commercial vehicles were traveling west on 76, when one rear-ended the vehicle in front of it.

Sampson Ananing, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was driving the truck that was hit. He was uninjured,

The passenger of the second truck, Jason Thomas, of Nicholasville, Ky., was killed and the driver of that truck, Steven Stout, of Somerset, Ky., was taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Stout is in critical condition.
