Findlay survives deep threats by Malone to stay perfect

Findlay escaped a barrage of 3-pointers by Malone to remain unbeaten on the year with a 92-87 victory over the Pioneers on Tuesday.

Malone (5-2) attempted 20 3s, connecting on 13 of them. Eric Coblentz made five of his six attempts from long range and finished the night with 27 points. Kyle Higgins had 17 and Isiah Elliott had 12.

Five Oilers players (5-0) scored in the double figures. They were Nathan Hyde (25), Aaron Robinson (16), Greg Kahlig (15), Kyle Caiola (12) and Brad Piehl (10).

Edinboro 81, Thiel 74

Edinboro

Clint Nicholson scored 21 points and Cory Somerville had 20 more for the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro (2-1) scored 45 points in the second half to seal the win. Somerville had 10 rebounds and two blocks while Danny Walsh had six rebounds and four assists.

The Tomcats (2-2) were paced by Devon Adams, who had23 points and six assists. Ladell Trotty had 18 points and Blair Rozenblad had 12.

Notre Dame 85, Westminster 68

South Euclid

The Falcons snapped a two-game slide and improved to the 2-3 on the season with the win.

Leading scorer Eric Dummermuth had 23 points while three other teammates had double figures as well. Steve Savel scored 15, Taylor Rieger had 13 and Curtis McClure contributed 12.

Steve Cress paced the Titans (1-2) with 18 points.

Geneva 74, Baldwin-Wallace 68

Beaver Falls

Dismal shooting doomed the Yellow Jackets in a non-conference game against Geneva.

The Yellow Jackets (1-2) shot just 39 percent for the game on 19-of-48 shooting. Kyle Payne led the scoring with 20 points, and Promis Cabbil added 12.

Geneva (3-0) got 17 points out of Drew Santarsiero and 13 from Richard Colick.

Grove City 63, Penn State Beaver 59

Grove City, Pa.

Grove City outshot Penn State Beaver 55-38 and improved their record to .500.

The Wolverines (2-2) had three double-digit scorers. Brett Matson led the team with 13 points, but was followed closely behind by Luke Tomaselli’s 12 and Cody Fleeger’s 10. Tomaselli also led the team with five rebounds.

Leading the Lions was Nick Miller with 13 points and Billy Stoughton with 12.

Trine 59, Mount Union 55

Angola, IND.

Ian Jackson led the Thunder with 28 points to give his team a non-conference win against Mount Union.

Jackson scored 20 of his points in the second half, and the Thunder (3-1) used clutch shots and a 15-2 run late to seal it.

The Purple Raiders (0-3) had three players score in the double figures. Jimmy Wood had 13, Ben Hodinson had 12 and Matt Wier added 10.

WOMEN

Muskingum 76, Bethany 67

New Concord

Bethany College allowed 49 second-half points and fell to 1-3 on the year.

Junior guard Anne Wilson had 20 points for the Bison, who have lost three straight. Behind her was junior guard Kelly Zogran with 12 points while senior Tara Harris and junior Renee Shepherd each had eight points.

Amanda Dobbins had a game-high 16 points for the Muskies (2-2) and Hannah Oakley had 13.

Ashland 66, Walsh 53

North Canton

Walsh trailed by just six points at halftime, despite shooting only 29 percent in the first half.

The loss puts the Cavaliers at 4-2 on the year. Senior Katie Berry led Walsh with 11 points, and Cara Bedard, also a senior, had 10. Senior Tatianna Hall and junior Bianca Hooten each had seven rebounds.

The Eagles (3-1) were led by a game-high 16 points from senior guard Ashley Poorman. Teammates Jena Stutzman had 14 and Liz Tyler had 12.

Grove City 64, Carnegie Mellon 60

Pittsburgh

Twenty-one points from Christine Slater, and 19 from Leah Gibson propelled the Wolverines.

The Wolverines (1-2) got only 24 points out of its 10 other players. But Slater and Gibson were able to handle the Tartans (1-2) almost by themselves.

Nicole Vaccarella led the way for the Tartans with 12 points. Behind her was Emily Peel with 11.

La Roche 45, Westminster 44

Pittsburgh

The Redhawks of La Roche remain unbeaten (4-0) with the victory.

The Redhawks squeezed 30 points out of Jessica Pitts (16) and Chantelle Jennings (14). Chloe’ Stewart added six points and Pitts also had seven rebounds.

The Titans (2-2) saw an 11-point effort from Emily Dolsak (McDonald).

Owens 82, Kellogg 39

TOLEDO

Dana Mathews (Struthers) scored three points for Owens (8-0), ranked No. 12 among community colleges.
