Plumlee leads Duke; Kentucky, Baylor win

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 25 points had 12 rebounds and six blocks to lead No. 1 Duke to an 82-77 victory over Marquette in the semifinals of the CBE Classic on Monday night.

The 6-foot-10 junior dominated inside in a game where the Blue Devils (4-0) took a big early lead then saw Marquette tie it three times before Duke went on a 9-0 run that gave it the cushion it needed down the stretch on the way to the reigning national champion’s 14th consecutive win.

No. 8 Kentucky 76, Oklahoma 64

LAHAINA, Hawaii

Freshman Terrence Jones dominated inside on his way to 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Kentucky held off scrappy Oklahoma in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

No. 12 Baylor 72, Lipscomb 60.

WACO, Texas

LaceDarius Dunn scored 24 points with seven 3-pointers in his season debut.

Dunn, the team’s leader scorer last season when Baylor made it an NCAA regional final and had a school-record 28 wins, was suspended for the first three games after a domestic dispute charge involving his girlfriend. He had been allowed to practice.

Consecutive 3-pointers by Dunn put the Bears (4-0) up 9-0 less than 4 minutes into the game.

Women

No. 8 Texas A&M 81, Liberty 49

COLLEGE STATION, Texas

Danielle Adams scored 20 points, Tyra White added 15 and Texas A&M cruised to an easy win over Liberty.

Adams, last season’s Big 12 conference newcomer of the year, has scored at least 20 points in all three of Texas A&M’s games this season. Monday was the first time this season she didn’t also reach double digits in rebounds, finishing with four in 19 minutes.

No. 11 Oklahoma 84, Fresno State 66

NORMAN, Okla.

Danielle Robinson had 17 points and eight assists while Oklahoma hit Fresno State with an early 3-point barrage on its way to a victory.

The Sooners (3-0) led by 20 less than 11 minutes into the game and were never threatened, continuing a strong start to the season despite losing three starters from last year’s team that made it to Final Four for a second straight season.

No. 22 St. John’s 60, Arkansas State 48

JONESBORO, Ark.

Da’Shena Stevens had 19 points and 13 rebounds to help St. John’s beat Arkansas State.

Shenneika Smith added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Red Storm (4-1), who outrebounded Arkansas State 48-27.

It was Stevens third double-double this season.
