Military veterans got a free lunch Nov. 11 at West Boulevard Elementary during a special event in their honor.

Veterans from all branches and generations were invited to the school for a Veteran’s Day luncheon where they were able to enjoy lunch with the students. Some grades made special cards for the veterans, while others paraded around in red, white and blue hats.

Students smiled and clapped as the service members walked to the lunch tables next to them. First-grader Brittany Sellers, while talking to a friend, said, “I love the veterans,” as she watched them take their seats.

The kindergartners made a special performance during the luncheon. While holding the U.S. flag, and with their hands placed over their hearts, they sang “God Bless America.”

Veterans were given red carnations to wear to distinguish them from others. The event was sponsored by the school PTA.
