Weathersfield Twp. to expand Kerr Cemetery
Staff report
MINERAL RIDGE
Weathersfield Township trustees have reviewed plans and work already done to open up a new section at Kerr Cemetery on Salt Springs Road.
Kerr Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the township and the only one where new graves are being sold out of a total of four township cemeteries.
The others are: Welsh Hill, Ohltown and County Line Road. They are all full, except for pre-paid plots.
Expansion of the new section is expected to be completed in the spring, trustee chairman Steve Gerberry said.
An additional 1,000 gravesites are planned. The current number of graves at the cemetery was not available.
Township crews have cleared trees on about two acres to save money on the project, and an outside company was hired for bulldozing and cleaning out stumps.
Trustees also reviewed plans for new roads and grave site sections at the cemetery.
