Township trustees to renew levy efforts
Township trustees are looking toward a renewal levy after a 2-mill replacement levy failed last week.
At their meeting Tuesday, trustees did not vote to put a renewal levy on the May ballot, but they are strongly considering it.
The replacement levy failed with 2,764 votes for and 3,241 against it.
The current 2-mill levy was passed in 1978 and is valued at 0.59144 mill, generating $193,296 annually. The 2-mill replacement levy would have brought in about $599,026.
Fiscal Officer Joseph Granitto previously had said the township has lost about $250,000 in annual revenues because of the economic downturn.
In other business, the trustees authorized payment for all outstanding township bills; accepted the financial report for October with revenue at $158,142.25 and expenditures at $167,770.79; and adjourned to discuss personnel matters.
