Canfield speech and debate team wins second straight tournament

The Canfield High School Speech and Debate team won the Niles Tournament Nov. 13 with 83 points.

That was one point better than second-place Howland (82). Austintown (73) was third.

The victory was the Cardinals’ second straight after winning at Columbiana Nov. 6. Canfield was second in the season-opening tournament at Edison on Oct. 30.

First-place winners for Canfield in individual events were Jessica Ensley (Original Oratory), Jillian Smith (Humor), Nathan Pecchia and Rosie Jo Neddy (Duo), Chloe Gebacz (Impromptu), Andrik Massaro (Lincoln-Douglas Debate) and Gabrielle Brant (Student Congress).

Second-place winners were Kaylee Kapalko (Impromptu) and C.J. Blaney (Lincoln-Douglas Debate).

Tim Nesnidol (Humor), Marisa McGrath (Impromtu) and Nicole Chahine (Student Congress) each finished third in their respective events.

Canfield will be back in action today competing in a tournament at Austintown Fitch.
