Residents need to boil water in these communities

Staff report

Aqua Ohio, Inc. is advising residents in several area communities to boil their water until further notice.

The towns included in the advisory are Poland, Lowellville and New Middletown villages; Poland, Coitsville, Boardman, Beaver, Canfield and Springfield townships; and the city of Struthers in Ohio; and Mahoning Township in Pennsylvania, according to a news release from Aqua Ohio.

A water sample taken by Aqua Ohio Thursday showed a high level of turbidity — or cloudiness — which increases the chance that the water could contain disease-causing organisms, the news release said.

To ensure safe drinking water, residents should bring water to a boil, let it boil for at least one minute and let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes until further notice.
