Berlin-Ellsworth Ruritan is announcing the winners of the organization’s 2010 baking contest. Named as Grand Champion of the Nov. 7 contest was Tina VanCise of Berlin Center, who created a chocolate cherry-filled cake.
Winners in the pie-baking division were:
Robert McCurdy of Warren, apple, blackberry and blueberry custard pies.
Joyce Thorpe of Berlin Center, apple cranberry pie.
Thelma Higley of Berlin Center, butterscotch cream pie.
Bonnie Taylor of Berlin Center, pecan pie.
Mary Jo Furman of Berlin Center, Kentucky Derby pie.
Martha Kale of Berlin Center, sugar-free custard pie.
In the cake division, the winners were:
Pat Frauns of Austintown, pineapple upside-down cake.
Karen Gritty of Ellsworth, Johnny Appleseed cake.
Ingrid McConnel of Austintown, German cheesecake.
Rita Baun of Berlin Center, cream puff dessert.
Wanda Wilson of Berlin Center, pumpkin roll.
Cookie division winners were:
Patti Bates of Berlin Center, chocolate chip.
Rita Baun of Berlin Center, peanut butter.
VanCise of Berlin Center, sugar.
Wanda Wilson of Berlin Center, Oreo truffles.
