YOUNGSTOWN

Police used pepper spray on crowds of Chaney High School students to break up two fights, at 8 a.m. and 8:35 a.m. Tuesday.

Two 15-year-old students involved in the first altercation needed medical assistance after a police officer used pepper spray when they refused to stop fighting, according to a police report. They were both charged with disorderly conduct.

The officer also used the spray to “disperse a very large crowd of juveniles.” No injuries were reported.

The second fight involved a 17-year-old Volney Road student punching a 14-year-old Ravenwood Avenue boy in the face. The Volney Road student was charged with assault.

Police used a two-second burst of pepper spray into a crowd of “several students” who joined the fight, according to a police report. The police report didn’t list any injuries.
