Pa. woman charged in teen's drinking death

MOUNTVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police are charging a 53-year-old woman with involuntary manslaughter for the June drinking-related death of a teenager at a party thrown by her daughter at their home.

West Hempfield Township also charged Norma Edkin on Tuesday with furnishing alcohol to minors and corruption of minors in connection with the June 7 death of 18-year-old Joseph Blankenmyer of Lancaster.

The arrest affidavit says Blankenmyer had been drinking vodka before he passed out on the living room floor of Edkin’s Mountville home, his lips purple and his skin pale.

Two 17-year-old boys drove Blankenmyer to a local hospital, and he later died of alcohol poisoning.
