KSU rallies past Robert Morris

Kent State got off to a slow start before rallying for a 62-59 win over Robert Morris in an early game for ESPN’s Tip-Off marathon.

Justin Greene led Kent State (3-1) with 20 points, helping the Golden Flashes erase a 12-point halftime deficit. He added 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Randal Holt hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 29 seconds left and finished with 12 points.

Playing their fifth game in five days, the Golden Flashes were sluggish in the first half, shooting just 30 percent. They trailed 35-23 at the break.

Kent State increased the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing Robert Morris (1-1) into a 1-14 shooting slump in the first seven minutes.

Karon Abraham led Robert Morris with 13 points.

No. 1 Duke 79, Miami (Ohio) 45

DURHAM, N.C.

Seth Curry scored 17 points as Duke routed Miami in the second round of the CBE Classic.

Kyrie Irving added 13 points and Mason Plumlee had 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Blue Devils (2-0). They shot 43 percent from the field, hit 40 percent of their 3-pointers, held a 48-27 rebounding advantage and used two overwhelming runs in the first half to effectively end it by halftime.

Nick Winbush scored 14 points for the RedHawks (1-1). They were held to 33 percent shooting in losing their 15th straight game against ranked opponents.

Curry, the younger brother of Golden State guard Stephen Curry who sat out last season after transferring from Liberty, was 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Hawaii 65, Central Michigan 62

HONOLULU

Bill Amis scored 17 points and three teammates also reached double figures as Hawaii held off Central Michigan in the Rainbow Classic.

Hiram Thompson had 15 points, Josten Thomas added 14 and Zane Johnson had 13 for Hawaii (3-0).

Johnson hit one of two free throws with 5.9 seconds left to give Hawaii a 64-62 lead. After a timeout, Central Michigan tried to inbound to Trey Zeigler, but the pass went off his hands and out of bounds.

Thomas was fouled with 4.2 seconds left and hit one of two free throws to make it a three-point game. Central Michigan’s Derek Jackson missed a half-court heave at the buzzer.

Zeigler scored 24 points for Central Michigan (1-2).

Bradley 66, Northern Illinois 63

PEORIA, Ill.

Andrew Warren scored 24 points as Bradley rallied to defeat Northern Illinois.

Sam Maniscalco scored 14 points for the Braves (2-0).

Bradley used a 19-2 run over a six-minute span in the second half to overcome a nine-point Northern Illinois lead. The Braves didn’t score from the field in the last 41/2 minutes, but held on at the free-throw line — despite finishing the game making only 8-of-16 attempts.

Xavier Silas led the Huskies (0-2) with 22 points. Nate Rucker had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
