Gas prices drop

Northeast Ohio gas prices at the pump dropped 4.3 cents at the pump over the last week, according to the American Automobile Association East Central office. The average cost of regular unleaded gas in Northeast Ohio is now $2.91 per gallon. The national average is $2.89 per gallon.

Cash dividend

First Niles Financial Inc., parent company of Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles, recently announced a cash dividend of 8 cents per share for the fourth quarter of 2010. The dividend will be payable Dec. 17 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 3.

First Niles had $103.5 million in assets and $12.6 million in stockholders’ equity as of Sept. 30. The company’s stock is traded on the Nasdaq Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board under the symbol FNFI.OB.

The Trumbull Career and Technical Center’s Adult Training Center will host an open house Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at TCTC, 528 Educational Highway. Visitors can tour the center’s labs, speak with staff, watch hands-on demonstrations and learn about financial-aid options.

40 Under 40 awards

The Mahoning Valley Young Professionals will host its annual 40 Under 40 awards Thursday at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 West Federal St. The event will honor local men and women under age 40 who are making an impact in their chosen professions and demonstrate a commitment to community involvement. Five honorees also will be recognized with the annual MVP awards.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $45. Proceeds will benefit The Young Philanthropist Fund, a partnership between the Young Professionals club and The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
