COLUMBUS — The FBI notified Ohio State University about bomb threats this morning, and the university shut down and evacuated four buildings just before 9 a.m.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, OSU issued a bomb threat alert via its emergency texting system just before 9 a.m.

The alert says the threat is at McPherson Chemical Lab, Scott Laboratory, Smith Laboratory and Thompson Library. "Avoid these buildings and area," the alert says.

Smith, 174 W. 18th Ave., houses anthropology and the engineering experiment station. McPherson, 140 W. 18th Ave., houses astronomy, chemistry and university residences and dining service offices. Scott, 201 W. 19th Ave., houses mechanical engineering.

A security officer said the buildings will be closed for hours, the newspaper report says.

Yellow police tape has been draped around a large area of West 18th.

One student who was evacuated from McPherson said the fire alarm went off and everyone left without any belongings.

Police dogs were sniffing parked bicycles near the library at 9:45 a.m.
