Columbiana County Prosecutor Robert Herron said that a felonious assault charge has been filed against a man in the stabbing death of a female companion.
Herron said Monday that the investigation is just beginning.
East Liverpool Chief Mike McVay said that Clyde Harris, 82, and Cynthia Cline, 51, were in an apartment at 210 Baum St. on Saturday night.
Cline called 911 at 7:21 p.m. and told the dispatcher that someone had stabbed her.
She was treated at East Liverpool City Hospital and then was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She died at the hospital about 2 a.m. Sunday.
When City police arrived at the apartment Saturday, they found Harris sitting in the kitchen with a bloody knife beside him.
Cline was on the floor with a knife beside her.
McVay said he believed there was an argument, and Harris stabbed Cline.
Authorities were unclear on the relationship between the two.
Harris was taken into custody and taken to the county jail.
Herron said that Harris will face the felonious charge pending an investigation.
The prosecutor said that Harris could claim self-defense.
Brian Fullum, an investigator for the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office, said that Cline’s autopsy will be done by Pennsylvania authorities since she died in that state.
Harris is being held on a $500,000 bond.
He will have a hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday in East Liverpool Municipal Court.
