Diabetes education

Diabetes Health Education and Lifestyle Program, an educational group for people with diabetes and their families, will meet at Northside Medical Center on June 7, 8, 9, 10, 21, 22, 23 and 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Classes will take place in the Education Building, Classroom A.

A physician’s referral is required to attend the courses.

Blood drive

A special blood drive at Alliance Community Hospital on Friday will honor men and women who have served in the armed forces.

The Memorial Day blood drive will be in conference room 1-A from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh no less than 110 pounds and be in general good health on the day of donation. Picture identification or a blood- donor card is required at registration.

If you are 16 and wish to donate blood, a parent or guardian must provide a signed release.

Support group

Huntington’s Disease Society of America is starting a local support group for those who have been affected by the disease, as well as family members, caregivers and anyone who would like more information on the disease.

Meetings will take place at Liberty Public Library, 415 ChurchHill-Hubbard Road, June 10 from 6 to 7:45 p.m.

Care courses

The Northern Ohio Chapter of the National Safety Council will offer a series of public emergency courses at the local office located at 25 E. Boardman St., Suite 343.

An Advanced Cardiac Life Support recertification course will be offered June 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The registration fee is $50.

The Basic Life Support course will take place from 1 to 4:30 p.m. June 4. The course will offer health-care providers either the initial two-year certification or a refresher for those whose certifications have expired. The course costs $50 for initial certification and $32 for the refresher course.

A CPR and Automated External Defibrillator course, which earns a two-year certification, will be June 9 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration costs $32.

Also on June 9, the chapter will offer a three-year certification course in standard first aid from 1 to 4 p.m. and a one-year certification course in bloodborne and airborne pathogens from 4 to 6 p.m. Both courses cost $32.

Pre-registration is required for all of the above courses.

Childbirth class

A one-day childbirth class will be offered in the John Politis Auditorium at Northside Medical Center on June 12 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mothers-to-be and their partners will learn Lamaze techniques and important information about pregnancy, labor and delivery.

The class is designed to accommodate parents who cannot attend the hospital’s four-week course and will cover all of the information presented in the longer course.

The cost of the class is $50. For those who have Medicaid, Caresource or Unison, the hospital can bill the registration fee directly to the provider.
