Valley does not need jobs; it sorely needs an industry

Is Rush ghost writing now?

Two key phrases in a recent diatribe explicitly reflect the ideology of the doctor from Liberty: “redistribution of wealth” and “regime.” The letter sounds as though it was written by Rush Limbaugh and sent to Youngstown for the good doctor’s signature.

His comment that, “In return, this congressional district sent about $3 billion to the federal government” rings hollow. If you go to the Tax Foundation Internet site, you will find that for every dollar sent from Ohio to the federal government, a dollar and a nickel in federal spending is returned to the state. Heck, I don’t think if we sold everything in the Mahoning Valley, we could raise $3 billion.

I have been preaching to everyone in the Valley since Black Monday that the Valley does not need jobs: we need an industry. We’ve heard all kinds of promises from local, state and federal politicians since that day about helping the Valley. And I’m afraid we’ll be waiting a lot longer — given the Nike Big Business Model of making everything overseas for a few bucks and bringing it back to America to be sold for big bucks.

The budget deficit that concerns conservatives was mostly generated by the three houses of government controlled by Republicans fighting an illegal war in Iraq. Additionally, the lack of “significant experience in the private sector” is simply another neocon red herring. Was it the “private-sector” experience (failed savings and loan in Texas) of George W. Bush that led him to become the worst president in the history of America?

There’s a shorter word for that

Connecticut Attorney Gen- eral Richard Blumenthal said he “misspoke” about having fought in the Vietnam War.

I looked up the word “misspeak” (past tense “misspoke”) in three dictionaries before I found it in Webster’s Third New International Dictionary.

Definition: “To speak incorrectly; use long words; express oneself badly.” In fact, he could have expressed himself more clearly with a much shorter word - “I lied”.
