State Controlling Board approves more than $850K for repairs at state prison in Youngstown

Monday, May 24, 2010

COLUMBUS — The state Controlling Board today released $855,000 for drainage improvements at the Ohio State Penitentiary on state Route 616 in Youngstown.

Original drains along the facility’s perimeter roads, fences and parking lots are failing, causing large amounts of standing water on the grounds.

According to documents, “The standing water is causing structural deterioration of the roads, parking lots and grounds. The excess water is also causing structural damage to the concrete that supports the perimeter fence, weakening its structural integrity.”

Miller Yount Paving of Cortland is handling the work.
