Warren JFK’s Michael Fredericka and Poland’s Ben Brocker both earned state tournament berths by finishing in the top five at Saturday’s Division II district tennis tournament.
Fredericka lost a semifinal match to CVCA’s Alex Aleman 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-4, then defeated Orange’s Sam Ubersax in the third-place match, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
Brocker won his consolation semifinal over Hawken’s Dan Lubarsky 7-5, 6-0, then defeated Rocky River’s James Meyer 7-5, 6-1 in the fifth-place match to earn the final qualifying spot.
In doubles action, Lakeview’s Matt McDivitt and Zach McDivitt lost their consolation semifinal match to University School’s Nick Smedira and Billy Lennon, 6-1, 6-1 and were eliminated.
No area singles players or doubles teams advanced in Division I.
