The Canfield High School Interact Club, sponsored by the Canfield Rotary, brought students from around the globe together at its 12th annual International Celebration May 10.

The goal of the evening was to recognize and honor exchange students in the Valley. Attendees included Rotarians, Rotary youth, exchange students and foreign language faculty from Canfield High School.

Several exchange students spoke about their experiences in the United States. Wai Kit Chan from Hong Kong; Saba Brachevli from the Republic of Georgia; Gonzalo Munilla from Spain; Gerald Rosenkranz from Austria; Mena Lisa from Beijing and Lena Engelhorn and Jakob Korenke, both of Germany, all shared their thoughts.

Most of the students have been in the States since August and many can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Many also said when they do go home, they will miss their host families and friends.

Layla Banaie, co-president of the Canfield High School Interact Club, said the celebration is one of 23 projects the club has done this school year.

“I think one of the nicest things about this dinner is that the upcoming executive board plans it as a passing of the torch experience,” Banaie said.

The club also performs community service and other international projects.

Officers of the Canfield High School Interact Club include Banaie and Chelsy Skalada, co-presidents; Michael Brocker and Molly Caskey, co-vice presidents; Kelly Kuppler, secretary and Timmy Mikes, treasurer. The club’s adviser is Evana Delon and the Rotary liaison to Interact is Brianna Komara.
