Bedford Chanel falls to Dayton Jefferson

Devin Foster and Juan Gay each scored 18 points and seventh-ranked Dayton Jefferson scored early and often to beat Bedford Chanel 81-44 in a Division IV state semifinal on Friday, one of the most lopsided games in tournament history.

Jefferson (16-10, including five forfeits for using an ineligible player) led 22-10, 46-21 and 69-39 at the quarter stops while shooting 61 percent from the field.

Associated Press Division IV state player of the year Adreian Payne, a 6-foot-10 senior headed to Michigan State, played only sparingly but had 11 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots. Cody Latimer added 11 points.

Devonta Brooks scored 16 points for Chanel (14-12).

The margin was two shy of the division record. The record is 51 points in a 2002 Division II semi.

Newark Catholic 48, Toledo Ottawa Hills 36

First-team All-Ohioan Matt Dawson led a balanced attack with 11 points and top-ranked Newark Catholic inched closer to its first title with a defense-fueled victory in the other Div. IV semifinal.

James Moerman added 10 points and Phil Taylor and Nate Adams, who grabbed 11 rebounds, chipped in nine apiece for the Green Wave (25-1). They led by three points after each of the first two quarters, then pulled away with an 8-1 run to start the third. Ottawa Hills never got closer than seven points again.

Lucas Janowicz had nine points and second-team all-stater Eliot Browarsky was limited to eight for the Green Bears (24-2), who hit just 34 percent from the field for the game and were 1 of 12 on 3-pointers.

Cincy Moeller 66, Mentor 59 (OT)

Alex Barlow, averaging all of 6.5 points a game, scored seven in the last 1:11 of overtime to spur ninth-ranked Cincinnati Moeller past No. 5 Mentor in a Division I semifinal.

Barlow scored 21 points, and Charlie Byers and Josh Morelock had 17 apiece for Moeller (22-4), which will now play for its fourth state title on Saturday night.

Jason Crowe had 28 points — hitting seven 3-pointers — to lead Mentor (23-4), making its first trip to the final four. First-team All-Ohioan Cole Krizancic added 13 points, half his average.

Massillon Jackson 62, Gahanna Lincoln 50

Josh Egner scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Massillon Jackson shot 58 percent from the field in beating previously unbeaten Gahanna Lincoln in the other Div. I semifinal.

Michael Shull added 14 points, Brad DuPont 12 and first-team All-Ohioan Mark Henninger had 11 points for the 13th-ranked Polar Bears (24-2).
