Youngstown Christian senior Casey Carroll, who led the Eagles to a 19-1 record and a berth in the district championship game, was named first team All-Ohio in Division IV by The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Carroll, a 6-foot-8 post player, averaged 18.2 points per game for Youngstown Christian.
Joining Carroll on the all-state team was McDonald junior Matthias Tayala, who averaged 17 points per game for the unbeaten Blue Devils. Tayala, who helped McDonald to a district championship, was named third team.
Michael Johnston of Wellsville was named special mention, while his teammate Jeremy Carter was selected honorable mention, along with John Pecchia of Youngstown Christian and Aaron Knight of Bloomfield.
In Div. III, Campbell Memorial’s Jerah’me Williams, who averaged 23 points per game, was named to the third team.
Williams led the Red Devils to the All-American Conference Blue Tier championship and a berth in the district championship game.
Also selected were Cody Dillon of Newton Falls and Ben Gysin of East Palestine, both special mention; and Brian Sole of Newton Falls and Nate Hodge of Campbell Memorial, as honorable mention.
Dillon and Sole led Newton Falls to a district championship and a berth in the regional final last weekend.
Ohio State-bound Aaron Craft, a 6-foot-2 point guard from top-ranked Findlay Liberty-Benton, was named player of the year in Div. III.
Craft averaged 26.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists while leading his team to a 79-1 regular-season record over his four years.
In Div. IV, Adreian Payne was named player of the year. Payne is also headed for the Big Ten, at Michigan State. The 6-10 senior hit for 15.9 points, 11.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocked shots a game while leading Dayton Jefferson to the state semifinals this week at Value City Arena.
Chad Spurgeon of East Canton was co-coach of the year in Div. III.
