WHO’S GONE: Several players from YSU’s fall roster have left the team. They are: QB Dailyn Campbell (who transferred to Findlay after not attempting a pass last year), FB Gary Thornton (who transferred to Walsh after missing last year with injury), CB Sir Demarco Bledsoe (who started six games in his one year at YSU after transferring from TCU), LB Jordan Edwards (who played sparingly last year), C Andy Kowicki (who started the final four games last fall), SS Adam House (who did not appear in a game last fall), DT Theo Barnes (who did not appear in a game last fall), CB A.J. Walker (who started against Illionis State), CB Bryan Gaiters (who started against Austin Peay), WR James Cravens (who played sparingly), FB Jim Bowersock (who did not appear in a game) and DT Warren Felton (who did not appear in a game).

GOING FOR THREE: Hubbard High graduate Marc Kanetsky, a junior who started one game last year, is getting reps as the first-team quarterback, with redshirt freshman Kurt Hess leading the second team. Redshirt freshman Gannon Hulea and freshman Meiko Locksley are battling for the third spot through four practices. Kanetsky led the first teamers to a field goal in a two-minute drill at the end of Monday’s practice.

DEPTH NEEDED: Coach Eric Wolford said the team’s biggest weakness is depth, which he’ll address in recruiting. “We’ve got to continue to do a good job with recruiting and it’s going to be an emphasis once spring ball is over,” he said. “But for right now, we’re going to develop our guys and find out who our best 11 guys are on both sides of the football and the best 11 on special teams. We’ll work on 12, 13, 14 and 15 from there.”
