The Mahoning County Recycling Division, better known as the Green Team, has announced the winners of its “Curbside Madness” recycling contest.
The contest period was Nov. 15 through Feb. 15.
First-place winner was Poland Township, which collected an average of 24.72 pounds per person for recycling.
Second place was Canfield Township with 21.18 pounds per person, and third place was the village of New Middletown, recycling 16.18 pounds per person at the curb.
First-place winner receives $1,000; second, $700; and third, $300.
More than 2 million pounds of material were collected for recycling from all county curbside communities during the contest period.
Poland Township also won the December-only holiday-waste contest and will receive a tree to plant in commemoration of Earth Day on April 22.
