Composting seminar
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
Lawrence County’s Penn State Cooperative Extension office will present a Backyard Composting Seminar from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 29 at the extension office at the Courthouse Annex on Court Street. Class size is limited. Those planning to attend must pre-register at (724) 654-8370. A limited number of compost bins will be available for purchase.
From sap to syrup
Slippery ROCK, Pa.
Discover how sap taken from the tree becomes syrup on the breakfast table at the Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, at 2 p.m. next Sunday.
The program is open to the public, and no registration is required. This event will unravel the mystery of how a tree functions and how people benefit from the life processes of these giant plants. The program begins with an indoor presentation that will progress into a guided outdoor walk featuring a working evaporator and a taste of spring itself — real maple syrup.
Route 158 cleanup

The Civic League of Wilmington Township seeks participants for a Pa. Route 158 road cleanup starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. Meet at the township building. Participants will clean that building and the Mercer County portion of the road.
Rabies vaccine
NEW Wilmington, PA.
The Civic League of Wilmington Township, Mercer County, will provide rabies vaccine to dogs and cats from 9 to 11 a.m. April 3 at the township building, 135 Auction Road.
Charged after crash
SALEM
Debora A, Dowdell, 56, of Richey School Road, Hanoverton, was charged with failure to control after she backed her sport-utility vehicle into the west wall of the Salem Pizza Hut at 1:54 p.m. Thursday, Salem police said. Police said she was in the parking lot of a veterinary clinic on the west side of the restaurant when she put her vehicle in reverse and drove over the parking barrier, rocks, a tree and into the west side of the restaurant. The wall and the vehicle were damaged. No one was injured. The restaurant closed briefly after the accident.
