Jurors deliberate in Cincy on death penalty for convicted killer

CINCINNATI (AP) — Defense attorneys for an admitted multiple killer who says he doesn’t deserve forgiveness will ask a Cincinnati jury to spare him from execution.

Closing statements are expected today and then jurors will begin deliberations on whether to recommend the death penalty or life in prison for 41-year-old Anthony Kirkland.

Jurors convicted Kirkland of aggravated murder and other charges in the killings of two teenage girls.

Kirkland read a statement in court Tuesday saying he gets angry and can’t stop himself. He called himself horrible and evil but said he wants to be spared execution.

Kirkland pleaded guilty to murder and corpse abuse in the killings of two Cincinnati women. Those cases do not carry the death penalty.
