SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Ohio police agencies are warning motorists that a four-leaf clover won’t do them any good if they’re caught driving drunk on St. Patrick’s Day.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, county sheriffs and local police say officers will be out in force today to arrest motorists who’ve celebrated by having too much to drink.
The patrol says it wants to keep Ohio roads safe on a holiday that has become dangerous. During St. Patrick’s day last year, four drivers were killed in the state, and troopers say all those accidents were related to impaired driving.
The highway patrol also notes that it made about 160 DUI arrests in 2009 in the 24-hour period beginning at 6 a.m. on March 17. It urges people to designate a sober driver if they plan to party.
