YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating two separate home invasions on the South Side in which occupants were physically assaulted. Shots were fired into one of the houses.

Police were sent to the 800 block of Cameron Avenue after receiving calls Monday evening about a man with a gun causing trouble in the area.

Officers responding to a home on Cameron were told that two people had come to the house, and one man, identified simply as Steve, got out of the car, broke a screen-door window, kicked in the front door of the house and went in. The man told occupants of the house he was looking for a man named James, but James ran out of the house when he saw Steve coming.

Reports say, Steve went from room to room in the house looking for James, then ripped a phone cord from the wall and pulled out a long-barreled revolver and began pointing it at everyone in the house.

Steve reportedly chased a man who ran from the house into the front yard, held the gun to his face and robbed him of $20.

Before getting back into his car, Steve turned and fired about five shots into the house. Officers noted three bullet holes in the wall of the house and two through a front screen door.

The man believed to be Steve’s target told police he borrowed a car from Steve to go to the store in November. He was pulled over, and police found drugs in the car. He was arrested, and the drugs were confiscated.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Police are also looking for a group of women who went to a home in the 500 block of Boston Avenue and beat a woman at the home in front of her children.

According to police, the 24-year-old woman and a friend went to the house at 5 p.m. Monday after spending the day shopping. Reports say the woman’s children were being watched by a baby sitter at the Boston address.

Reports say a group of seven women ranging in age from 18 to 40 came into the home minutes after the two women had arrived and attacked the 24-year-old.

Police said the 24-year-old woman was beaten while holding one of her children. No arrests have been made.
