The winning bid to purchase John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to “A Day in the Life,” the final song on the classic Beatles album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The bid was placed by phone Friday at Sotheby’s auction house in New York, which declined to identify the collector.
