POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

June 12

Theft: A garbage can was taken from a residence in the 500 block of Wendemere Drive.

June 13

Attempted breaking and entering: A basement door at a home in the 30 block of Henry Street was damaged, though no entry was gained.

June 14

Theft: Hubcaps were stolen off a vehicle in the 900 block of Saul Drive.

Arrest: Ciara Clark, 2992 Megan Circle, Hubbard, surrendered to authorities on a warrant from Hubbard Mayor’s Court accusing her with failing to appear to face a driving-under-suspension charge.

Theft: A laptop computer was stolen at Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave.

Theft: A woman in the 800 block of Jerry Drive reported the theft of a wedding ring.

June 15

Menacing: A township man told police a person has been passing his residence daily and threatening him.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter a garage in the 1100 block of Waugh Drive.

LIBERTY

June 11

Drugs: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Machelle D. Sydney, 253 Alameda Ave., Youngstown, on a felony count of possession of heroin and a misdemeanor charge of falsification. Sydney, who police said provided a family member’s name, date of birth and Social Security number, had two small bags of suspected heroin, a report showed.

Domestic violence: Rushad E. Chambers, 34, of 2518 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of domestic violence and criminal trespassing after a Euclid Boulevard woman reported Chambers had threatened to harm her and refused to leave.

Fraud: A Hubbard man who lost his bank card at a Belmont Avenue store found out the card was used to make two unauthorized transactions.

Attempted auto theft: Someone in the 2000 block of Burning Tree Lane broke a vehicle’s passenger-side window and damaged its steering column in an effort to steal the car.

Theft: A man discovered his wallet missing from his residence in the 3000 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Kimberly V. Washington, 35, of 227 Hamilton St., Campbell, after pulling her vehicle over on state Route 193. She was wanted on a warrant from Mahoning County Court in Austintown.

Theft: A woman’s purse was stolen from her Trumbull Avenue home.

Theft: A cell phone and charger, two MP3 players and an auxiliary cable were taken from a vehicle in the 5700 block of Sampson Drive.

Domestic violence: Authorities charged 54-year-old Nawal A. Picaro, 3026 Green Acres Drive, Liberty, after two family members reported having been abused. One alleged Picaro clawed at her ankle and struck her head with a pan; the other told police Picaro slapped her back and scratched her chest.

Domestic violence: Anthony McCeachy, 35, of 686 McBride St., Youngstown, was charged after his girlfriend at a Motor Inn Drive motel alleged McCeachy had choked, punched and slapped her during an argument there. He also was wanted by Hubbard authorities on a charge of passing a bad check.

June 12

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Antone’s Italian Caf , 3551 Belmont Ave., via a drive-through window before taking a cash register and an undisclosed amount of money.

Theft: Officials with Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, detained a 19-year-old Youngstown woman and a Campbell woman, 23, after $58 worth of body spray and cosmetics was stolen.

Drugs: Police investigated a suspicious car on Trumbull Court, where they issued a summons to Mark Stanovcak Jr., 19, of 2709 Tibbetts-Wick Road, Hubbard, charging him with possession of marijuana.

June 13

Drugs: Officers responded to a man lying in the grass in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue, then charged 43-year-old Jeffery L. Jackson, 4 Trumbull Court, Youngstown, with possession of dangerous drugs, drug abuse and disorderly conduct while intoxicated after finding he had a bottle with several tablets as well as suspected marijuana. Jackson also was wanted on a felony charge of receiving stolen property.

June 14

Menacing: A Shannon Road woman said a man sent a text message threatening to slit her throat.

Theft: Walmart officials stopped a 24-year-old Youngstown man after light bulbs had been stolen.

Arrest: Police watched a suspicious vehicle in the 1600 block of East Liberty Street before arresting 43-year-old Christopher J. Smith, 253 Forsythe Ave., Girard, on a probation-violation charge. Smith also was wanted on a warrant from McDonald.

June 15

Theft/damage: A vehicle’s window was smashed in the 20 block of Lynn Drive. A backpack was taken.

Theft: A charge was pending against a 43-year-old Hubbard woman thought to have stolen from Walmart a carpet steamer machine and related attachments.

June 16

Theft: A $250 cell phone was removed from a car parked on Goldie Road.

GIRARD

June 14

Theft: A purse was removed from a car near Townsend Avenue.

Auto theft: A Stull Avenue woman reported her 1995 Mercury Sable stolen.

Criminal mischief: Police received several complaints of uprooted or destroyed mailboxes in the 20, 30 and 50 blocks of Mohican Drive, as well as several on Squaw Creek Drive.

Arrest: Officers arrested Starkey R. Gilliam, no information given, after a woman in the 900 block of North State Street reported having been robbed of an envelope containing money. Gilliam was taken into custody on a warrant charging him with domestic violence, though he had not been charged in the robbery at the time of the report.

June 15

Aggravated menacing: A North Highland Avenue man told police his estranged wife threatened to harm him and a neighbor.
