Special Olympics flame to come through Boardman next week

For the first time, the “Flame of Hope” will burn through the Mahoning Valley as runners and bikers take off on the 2010 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The torch, which is carried in 130 communities in Ohio as a kickoff to the Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games in Columbus, will come through Boardman at 10:30 a.m. June 23.

Registration for the 3.26-mile run is 8 a.m. at Chili’s Grill and Bar on U.S. Route 224 or at www.sooh.org.

Runners and bikers will begin there and head south on Market Street toward Antone’s Banquet Center.

The participants will then turn around and head north on Market about 11 a.m. to the YMCA for a ceremony and pictures before continuing north and ending at the Boardman Police Department.

Registration for the event is $25 and includes a T-shirt.
