CLEVELAND
A federal grand jury has indicted a Cortland man on charges of impersonating a federal drug agent and possessing an unregistered firearm.
The indictment alleges that between Feb. 11 and 18, Nail Majid, 39, told a local police officer he was a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent in an attempt to get a benefit for his spouse.
The indictment also says he possessed an unregistered .223-caliber rifle with a 9.5-inch-long barrel and ammunition Feb. 18.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
Indicted in a separate case was Charles S. Weatherspoon, 52, of East Liverpool, who was charged with attempting to possess about 20 ounces of cocaine on June 4. The U.S. attorney’s office announced the indictments Tuesday.
