MILESTONES

DOCTOR

Fellowship finished

Dr. Robert Alex Hirschl, a 1995 graduate of Boardman High School, has completed his fellowship at Ohio State University, where he was chief resident trained in endovascular neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology.

He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 2000 from Youngstown State University. He graduated from OSU’s College of Medicine in 2004 and from the university’s department of neurosurgery this year.

He has two patents for the intercranial drill bit and laminar bolt. He also has done various research projects and had many articles published in medical magazines.

Dr. Hirschl has taken a position at Mercer Hospital Brain and Spine Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He lives in Des Moines with his wife, Erica, formerly of Hubbard, and son, Isaac.

Dr. Hirschl is the son of Larry and Marsha Hirschl, formerly of Boardman and now of Springfield Township, and is the grandson of Ruth Farbman.

Eagle SCOUTS

Christopher Andrews, 17, of Boardman, son of Philip and Cynthia Andrews, recently received the Eagle Scout Award at a court of honor at Boardman United Methodist Church.

He joined Troop 46 in 2004 with scoutmaster Eric Grabman. He has had offices of quartermaster and patrol leader. He earned the Ad Altare Dei religious award, Arrow of Light from Cub Scout Pack 114 and has been a member of the Order of the Arrow since 2009.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he constructed a handicap ramp for St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Walnut Street in Youngstown.

He is a senior at Boardman High School, where he is a member of the marching band and Art Club. He also is a member of St. Charles Church in Boardman.

Michael Aaron Baker, son of Donald and Cherie Baker of Bristolville, received the Eagle Scout Award at a court-of-honor ceremony in Bristolville United Methodist Church. His scoutmaster is Jeff Orr.

Baker joined Cub Scouts in 2000 and received the Arrow of Light Award in 2004. He is a member of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scout Troop 75 and attends Bristol High School.

His Eagle Scout service project was to design and construct a foot bridge over a wet area leading from the parking lot to a garden area for the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District in Cortland.

His other school activities include National Honor Society membership, and he is a member of the Beta Club and Prep Bowl team.

DOCTORATE

Pharmacy degree

Aaron Bagnola, a 2004 graduate of Ursuline High School, has earned his doctor of pharmacy degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

While at Duquesne, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and American Pharmacists Association and participated in the Duquesne Medication Management program.

He will be completing a postgraduate pharmacy-practice residency at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. He is the son of Sylvia Kuppler of Canfield and John Bagnola of Austintown.
