Eagle award winner

Jared Sprague, 14, son of Tim and Lorie Sprague, Bazetta Road, Cortland, received the Eagle Scout Award at a court-of-honor ceremony Jan. 23. Scoutmaster is Keith Furst of Troop 54.

Jared started as a Cub Scout in Pack 50 in 2001 and worked his way from Tiger Cub to Webelos, where he earned the Arrow of Light, the highest honor in Cub Scouts. He joined Boy Scout Troop 54 in March 2006 and attended summer camp at Camp Stigwandish and Camp Manatoc. He earned 22 merit badges and has had the office of troop patrol leader.

His Eagle Scout service project consisted of planning and designing a gardening shed that was designed to look like a rustic outhouse for the Trumbull County Agriculture Center in Cortland.

Jared is a freshman honor-roll student at Lakeview High School. He also is a member of St. Robert’s Church, where he is a server.
