Former resident at orphanage living new life

The Rev. Kathryn Adams reported that Vlad Makarov, 19, a former resident of Renewal Orphange in Dmitrov, Russia, now has an apartment that he shares with his grandmother and sister, 17. And he has a bulldog named Matilda.

She was able to visit him during her last trip to the orphanage.

The Rev. Mrs. Adams met Makarov on a mission trip in 2006. He had lost his legs below the knees after he fell on railroad tracks and was run over by a train.

The mission team made arrangements for Makarov to come to the United States two years ago. He was fitted for prosthetic legs by Craig Svader of Advanced Anatomical Design in Canfield and Girard.

Makarov spent from Dec. 17, 2007-March 17, 2008, being hosted by Mrs. Adams and her husband, the Rev. Russ Adams, at their home in Canfield. After getting his prosthetic legs, he had therapy three times a week at NovaCare rehabilitation in Austintown.

Mrs. Adams said Makarov is attending technical college and studying computer programming.

“He has a new life because of his legs,” Mrs. Adams said.

Makarov was featured in stories in The Vindicator.
