City man found stabbed to death inside his home

The man had stab wounds to his chest, neck, back and face.

YOUNGSTOWN — City police are investigating the stabbing death of a South Side man in his home — the city’s second homicide this week.

Police were sent to a home in the 300 block of West Earle Avenue just after 11 a.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they found a hysterical 24-year-old woman standing outside the home holding a baby and saying her boyfriend was inside lying on the floor covered in blood.

Officers found Lamont Brown, 33, resident at the home, dead. He had stab wounds to his chest, neck, back and face.

According to police, a couch and overturned coffee table in the room were also covered in blood.

Police spoke with Brown’s mother and girlfriend. Both women said they spoke to Brown on Wednesday. They said he was at ease and talking about going to work that evening.

The girlfriend told police she tried to call Brown early Thursday morning but got no response. She said she came to the Earle Avenue home and found the front door unlocked with Brown lying motionless on the floor. Police said Brown still had $13 in his pants pocket when he was found.

His death is the city’s fifth homicide this year and the second within a week.

Angeline Fimognari, 80, Sheridan Road, was found shot to death Saturday in the parking lot of St. Dominic Church on the South Side. She was shot in the head, and her purse was missing.

There was one homicide at this time last year.
