Two Masses remember life of shooting victim

YOUNGSTOWN — Two Masses today remembered the life and faith of Angeline Fimognari, who was killed by an unknown assailant Saturday morning.

The Most Rev. George Murry, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, told those attending the 8 a.m. Mass today at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., that “sorrow is not the end of the story.”

“God gives us life after death,” he said.

Fimognari was shot by an unknown assailant in the church parking lot after the 8 a.m. Mass, which she faithfully attended.

The bishop said the community must transform sorrow into loving God and neighbors, and follow Fimognari’s example of prayer.

Church members said they are more determined than ever to keep St. Dominic a vibrant parish. It has some 1,200 members. It appeared there were more than 150 people in attendance this morning.

A funeral Mass took place at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, where more than 300 mourners gathered.

The Rev. Nicholas Shori, pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, was the main celebrant. In his homily, Father Shori focused on how mourners came from different places and parishes in the community were brought together ... bound by baptism and the shared sacred bond of communion. He pointed out that Fimognari was a member of a wide community — the city, the church, her neighborhood and her family.
