Robber hits Covelli Centre food vendor

YOUNGSTOWN — An armed robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash at 9:15 a.m. today from the Boston Culinary office at the Covelli Centre.

The robber told the local director of finance for Boston Culinary, the food and drink vendor for the center, to open the safe in the company’s kitchen, said Eric Ryan, the Covelli Centre’s executive director. There were other people at the center when the robbery took place, but no one was in the kitchen, he said.

The finance director was tied up, Youngstown police said.

The center has security cameras, but it isn’t known if the crime was caught on tape, Ryan said.

The robber wore a ski mask. He ran away from the center after the robbery.

Police are investigating.
