Montessori open house

The Montessori School of Mahoning Valley held its second open house Jan. 13 to demonstrate its hands-on teaching materials.

The school, located in Austintown, uses the educational methods of Maria Montessori to teach concepts like botany, geography and geometry to children as young as three and four.

“What these materials do is provide the child the opportunity to explore subjects hands-on,” said executive director Amy-Anne Kibler.

Although the school teaches students through eigth grade, the open house highlighted educational approaches the school uses for children as young as 2. The school is now in its 33rd year.
